Pope Francis To Followers: “Koran And Holy Bible Are The Same”

صورة
Catholic followers were addressed this Monday by the Bishop of Rome regarding the dire importance of exhibiting religious tolerance. During his hour-long speech, a smiling Pope Francis was quoted telling the Vatican’s guests that the Koran, and the spiritual teachings contained therein, are just as valid as the Holy Bible.   “Jesus Christ, Jehovah, Allah. These are all names employed to describe an entity that is distinctly the same across the world. For centuries, blood has been needlessly shed because of the desire to segregate our faiths. This, however, should be the very concept which unites us as people, as nations, and as a world bound by faith. Together, we can bring about an unprecedented age of peace, all we need to achieve such a state is respect each others beliefs, for we are all children of God regardless of the name we choose to address him by. We can accomplish miraculous things in the world by merging our faiths, and the time for such a movement is now. No longer shall...

U.N. Tells Trump: Repealing Obamacare Illegal And We Won’t Allow It

صورة
Dana Milbank reports , with glee, that the United Nations “has contacted the Trump administration as part of an investigation into whether repealing [Obamacare] without an adequate substitute for the millions who would lose health coverage would be a violation of several international conventions that bind the United States.” The warning comes from the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner on Human Rights in Geneva. The U.N. Human Rights Commission (now known as the Human Rights Council) purports to “uphold the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights,“ Its members  include  China, Cuba, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela. The “High Commissioner’s” office warning that Obamacare repeal/replacement might be illegal comes in a letter to the Trump administration. The Commissioner asked that the letter be shared with majority and minority leadership in both chambers of Congress. It also proposed that “...

Why is vaccination important for addressing antibiotic resistance?

صورة
Q: Why is vaccination important for addressing antibiotic resistance? A:  Vaccines can help limit the spread of antibiotic resistance. The global increase in disease caused by drug-resistant bacteria, due to overuse and misuse of antibiotics, is a major public health concern. It is more difficult and costly to treat antibiotic-resistant infections and people do not always recover. Vaccinating humans and animals is a very effective way to stop them from getting infected and thereby preventing the need for antibiotics. Making better use of existing vaccines and developing new vaccines are important ways to tackle antibiotic resistance and reduce preventable illness and deaths. Q: How can existing vaccines have an impact? A:  Expanding the use of existing vaccines will reduce the use of antibiotics and the development of resistance. For example, if every child in the world received a vaccine to protect them from infection with  Streptococcus pneumoniae  bacteria...

Embrace the facts about vaccines, not the myths

Dr Flavia Bustreo, Assistant Director-General for Family, Women’s and Children’s Health at WHO and co-Chair of the Gavi Board Commentary  26 April 2017 Hans Rosling was a brilliant statistician, medical doctor and communicator, who truly understood the value of immunization. Flavia Bustreo, Assistant Director-General, Family, Women's and Children's Health, WHO WHO One of the greatest myth-busters working in public health, he once asked an audience at the World Economic Forum in Davos: "What percentage of children today are vaccinated against measles: 30%, 50% or 85%?". Some of the smartest people in the world mostly got it wrong, with just one in five correctly saying 85%. Hans told this story to drive home how little most of us understand about the positive impact of immunization. Such a low percentage of correct answers was, he said, clear evidence of preconceived ideas. The folks at Davos weren’t just ignorant of the facts – most of them didn’t recognize ...
